The economy isn't real. There's no GWSE that rings open every morning at eight with people placing fortunes on the futures of commodities or buying stock in your various merchants.
This is a game, and more specifically, it's a game about balance where skills and the use of same are the determining factor, not wealth or skins.
That being said, the goal of the game should be not to have a U.S. style capitalistic society, but one where everyone has easy access to everything needed to compete as equals. There should be no classes of haves and have nots. Sure, you can cough and say greens, but the mentality is such that someone relying on greens is somehow a lower class than someone with a perfect zodiac whatever with the exact same stats.
|
If you feel "lower class" for using greens, that is a personal issue. As you said, wealth and skins have no effect on the outcome of the game; thus you don't need that perfect gold item to play at a high level.

You have a tenuous grasp of the point, at best.
First off, I use greens. Ranger uses a Kephkets Refuge when trapping, assassin uses Cerimonial Daggers, Mesmer has a few... there's others... and I never claimed that I personally felt lower classes. It's the ones with the zodiac whatevers that have the illusion of superiority, even if the stats are equal to whatever green I'm using. Splashing more golds out there to reduce the rarity is a good way to calm tis issue down.
And secondly, the concept is to allow everyone access to the same high end weapons, cheaply, as everyone else. Then equality is assured, and everyone wins.

Gaming has never been and never will be about equality. Rather, it's about individuality. The majority of people who play this game want to have different/better/rarer skins as a show of status (or at a minimum, to remind them of the amount of time spent playing the game).
Please do not opine on my understanding of your point, I can assure you that I completely understand. I will admit that I am, by nature, terse. I choose not to type paragraphs when I can state my opinion in a sentence ( I leave the soap box to LBS). I would advise you not to turn this personal, nor to begin insulting me or my intelligence; you will only make yourself look foolish.
Our difference in views can be traced to the fact I am a Capitalist, and you are a Socialist. We have differing world views that we both try to apply to a video game (which is a stroke of comic brillance in its own regard), so this will have to be one of those "agree to disagree" topics...
...now if I can just get that poor person to wash my BMW

I think they don't want to include Shing Jea Chests ???
As you say tho, it's ambiguous ... we don't know if they want every chest in Factions, or just those on the "technical" Canthan continent.

I understand what you're saying about gaming not being about equality... that's the way it is in every other game except this one. Guild Wars IS about equality, about balance, about skills. Why else would there be a level 20 cap, 8 skill skillbar, balanced max weapon damages, etc.? Normally you're correct, but GW breaks the paradigm set by the Diablo's, WoWs, etc. where bigger is indeed better.
Now as for insulting intelligences and points being missed, merely stating that it appears that you missed the point (you gave no indication of understanding it in the post) is hardly a personal attack on your intelligence or absence thereof. Besides, I hardly need to insult your intelligence to look foolish; I've demonstrated the ability to do so in the past and assuredly will do so again without your help.
And have no doubts that I am indeed a capitalist in the real world, although I choose the shiny red Jeep Wrangler to the BMW, but that's a personal preference. Just so you know, for ten bucks that poor person will even shine the tires for you.

I love this word twisting, sounds like something I would write. It is, but it isn't. Is it insulting or self-depreciating? Dunno, but I like it.

Shing Jea is probably included, however UW / FoW are not a part of Cantha, and thusly those chests aren't effected.

I think this is a way to balance out the farming by in a way making it easier for more people with less time to farm some nice items. Because there are people like me who have done all i care to do and now all i have left is to farm all day long so this lets people who don't do what i do get on the same page.. which is cool with me.
I got sick of just farming so i haven't been playing and probably wont untill closer to Nightfalls release. Then i'll decide if i stay or go.

For the most part, I agree with capitalist. The prices of nearly all items is trending down. In the early stages of the game, 15>50 weapons could be sold for boatloads of cash, even if they were an undesirable skin. Now, the only weapons really worth keeping are the rare and desired skins. The market is already FLOODED with good weapons, and we would see many more of them if a more convinient way to sell items was available.
Which brings me to my next point. If an auction house or ANY type of efficient trade system were put in place, the value of items would plummet. I know I'm not alone when I say that it is difficult to trade items. There are tools like the sell forum here on this website and the auction website, but these are unknown to many gamers. And I know I'm not the only one that has a stockpile of weapons just waiting to be sold.
I really don't expect this weekend to change prices THAT much, but hey, I could be wrong. I figure that when the average gamer finds his good weapon, he will store it after having no success in LA D1. But overall, it should be a fun weekend and a good chance to get the treasure hunter titles up.

ArenaNet has announced its next Weekend Event: Player Slaughter! From noon Friday to midnight Sunday, all drops will consist of nothing but Bones and Minor Runes of Any Class But The Ones You Use. In addition, duration of all player skills has been cut in half, and monster life and damage has been tripled. Plus, *no* Resurrection Shrines! Hope you all have a great weekend...

Capitalism, supply and demand, economy and whatnot: well that's just a huge steaming pile of BC. All this is about is people with small penises.
PS. if someone could finally tell me if elite missions are considered as "being in Cantha"?

New Note.
For Some Reason:
1) The In-Game Login Screen notice about this "Double-Your-Fun" weekend has been removed (The old announcement about the now-past Elite Mission weekend is back)
2) On guildwars.com The Announcement about this "Double-Your-Fun" weekend just redirects you right back to the main page (there is no page describing this weekend)
They change their minds on this idea?
Seems So.
